[s-cars] scanner Q

Scanners are useful, but really require attention and are certainly no
replacement for a Valentine 1. Best used by co-pilot, not by pilot, if you
know what I mean.

Good for areas where they use Vascar, air surveillance, etc.

I use a Uniden Beartracker BCT-7, preprogrammed with all 50 states state
police, can scan other bands as well. Beeps at you when within 2 miles of
law enforcement transmission, etc. Go to www.uniden.com to find out more.

Probably best for very rural areas and the open road, less useful here on
east coast with dense traffic and stealth troopers hiding behind every
bridge abutment with instant-on K-band.

Good luck!

Hey all,

Here is a short tale that could easily be titled "Stealth Qship vs. A Tale
of Two Turbos"

Just got back the other day from an extended weekend in Santa Fe for PCA
Roadrunner Region's Fiesta Del Porsche. It was a pretty casual,
entertaining, fun event all around.

We caravanned down from the Denver area with a red 993 twin a silver 993
twin and my UrS, and on the way back there was a blue 964 turbo added to the
mix for a little while too.

Out of that group, guess who the only car not to be harassed by the cops
was?

That's right, the fine, upstanding, young man in the black four door family
sedan!

So, needless to say, I spent a fair amount of time waiting for those
criminals, fugitives, bandits, offenders, lawbreakers, delinquents, etc.,
while our various law enforcement agencies had them pulled over on the side
of the road (multiple times!).

Anyway, I was thinking that it would have been cool to listen in to the
police communications while this was all going down (we are fairly sure that
the first cop radioed ahead with the "fresh meat" heads up for his other cop
buddies). Accordingly, anyone have any suggestions regarding Police Scanners
and using them as an aid for road trips, etc.?? Easy, hard, expensive, worth
it???
