[s-cars] crazy fuel gauge

Hello folks,

Wonderful therapy this - I was worried about my 23mpg (mostly 4 mile trips
on fairly open roads - average speed about 30mph) and 27mpg for longer runs.
Now I feel quite smug!

However, my gallons are bigger than yours - (1 British Imperial gallon =
1.201 U.S. gallons), so my 23 and 27 become 19 and 22.5mpg.  I don't feel so
smug any more!!

It's impossible to drive these cars sedately - I've tried, I really have.
It's not helped by me suspecting that my boost is a little under what it
should be, so I keep testing it.  Even at a pitiful 1.9bar absolute (the
current sustained maximum I'm seeing) the petrol gauge nose dives.  I'd hate
to see what it could do if I was getting the theoretical maximum of 2.15bar.
