Serge -
Until someone decides to hook up & post some DaveTron figures for their
stock IC's, a lot of the speculation about the +'s &/or -'s of either the
TAP unit, or the big FMIC (front mounted intercooler) will have to remain in
Rod's favorite (least) category of speculative bench bar stool bench racing.
At least as good, maybe even better would be some differential pressure
reading across the hot to cold side of the IC.
That said, IMPO the stock IC certainly "looks," at least, to me to be a very
nice piece of construction.
OTOH, I wouldn't completely dismiss the TAP unit just because of the inlet
neck anomalies noted by Achint. Achint, a close inspection of the stock IC
inlet end cap (courtesy of Bob Pastore's donation) would show that the
factory makes a similar "crimp" in its inlet design. Speculation on my part
would be that it is purposely done to help distribute incoming intake charge
air more evenly across the core. Having just witnessed the effects of a
pair of just slightly larger than stock IC's put on a tt S4, I also wouldn't
completely discount the effects of even a slightly larger IC in the stock
location. That said, I wouldn't trust TAP to do it though.

~While on the topic, does anyone have firsthand experience with the
~TAP sport
~IC. Before I knew about this list, I called TAP and got a description, I
~believe they claimed 20% larger, all aluminum construction and fits stock
~location. Any experience w/ this? Has anyone purchase one of these and
~compared it to stock, installed it and seen any benefit?
