[s-cars] mileage

Wow guys...maybe I have a really miserly car but I consistently run 22 to 24
with combined highway/city and on my way back to Minnesota in October I got
27 on my highest tank with the cruise set at 82 mph. My odometer registers
exactly 2.1% lower than actual mileage and all these figures are calculated
with real values, not just using the trip computer. My average distance on
a tank is about 450 in combined city/highway and the most I have ever gotten
was 515 with some still left in the tank.
I drive VERY aggressively around town and I will actually hunt for people to
race.
The car is totally stock and will hit about 20 lbs in overboost mode.
What the hell are these chip manufacturers thinking if their chips affect
the partial throttle mileage that much??? These guys must be a bunch of
hacks to have to affect the part throttle at cruise with the manifold under
vacuum by 5 mpg!
I will say that for the highway cruise I was at about an average of 4k feet
in altitude which will help the mileage because of the lower wind resistance
by about 10%. However, when I would drop to 65 through construction zones,
etc., I would easily hit 29 mpg at a steady pace.

note that this is a 2-way average, so the return trip would have to be
back up the cliff with a headwind. :)
believe me, i was surprised. i drive with a heavy foot. had two other
people in the car with me for the round trip between the bay area and
lake tahoe. i wanted to see how much boost would fall off at higher
altitudes, and frequently went WOT up to 120+ mph. for the record,
boost didn't seem to fall off significantly, but turbo lag increased
noticeably.
these are heavy cars with good aerodynamics and turbocharged engines.
they definitely get better mileage on the freeway.
