I'm a cheap SOB too, but I bought the hefty man's Sears Best floor jack when
it went on sale for $49. This is a big 3 ton jack, will almost lift both my
cars at once, plenty of safety margin built in.

Some things aren't worth going cheap. And a halfway decent jack is well
worth it. I retired a 2 ton jack that was too small to do the job properly.
