I blew my belt 2 weeks ago. And still drove another 50 miles. (The
battery ran out of juice for the fuel pump). The hardest part was trying
to get the old belt chunks from where the fan joins the engine without
taking anything apart. It took about 10 mins to install the belt the
lazy way.

I took off the top cover that runs across the front of the engine
between the lights (6 bolts). That gives you access to fan from the top.
I just aligned the outside of the belt with the outside of the fan and
slowly turned the fan with my hand until the belt loop was at the 5
o'clock position on the fan. Then just slid the belt on all the pulleys,
and used a big set of chain locks to relieve the tensioner and slip on
the belt. (there is a special tool for relieving the tensioner but a
previous owner broke the piece that it fits to)

Voila.

My mechanic recommended to change the belt every time you do your timing
belt (every 60k miles). It doesn't add much to labour and the belts here
are $31 Canadian. It just happens to be the exact same belt Chevy uses
on their 5.7 litre engines.

Hope this help
