people will race anything, including semis and swamp buggies.

you can make it go pretty fast.  after all, audi did it with the
trans-am 200tq and the IMSA 90tq.  but how much are you going to
spend doing it?  there are easier and cheaper alternatives, like
the porsche 944 turbo or its nemesis, the corvette.  you can get
a corvette LT1 pretty cheap these days, and even stock, it's a
damn fast car.
