Scott-
All very good points.

If you're talking about a type 44 rather than a C4, I can see where
you're
going with this.

However- two questions about the suitability of a type 44 as a dedicated
track car:

1. What is your solution to getting enough rubber down- wheelwell
clearance
is very tight, esp. w/ the steering knuckle clearance in the non-20v
type 44s
as well as the rear wheelwells?

2. Isn't a shorter wheelbase car more desirable for crisp turn-in?

Most of us are using street-legal cars, thus the suitability of a 951
over
the Audi- much better when comparing the two in street trim.

Taka:
Audi ran the type 44 in DTM (v8) the 88 trans am series, and several
teams put together the urs4 to run in the states as well. All with good
success. The type 44 is a car to be reckoned with IMO. For the price
of a 5ktq (under a grand running for the car, another couple in prep)
you can get a dedicated track car that will be second only to the most
tweeked of tweeked porsches, btst, in fact one of those cars is in my
shop right now.

With a 20vt conversion into that same track 5ktq, you can have the rest
chasing you in any marque event (btdoingt to this same machine). The
problem with the urs is it's weight, the 5ktq on the other hand can be
easily trimmed to 2700lbs, which with a chipped 10vt is a better p/w
ratio than the 951. Bang for buck, the type 44 isn't at all a bad track
beast to consider, but it must be considered in track context only to be
serious.
