Your parts shortage 3 years ago was caused in part by a Y2k fiasco: VW
"upgraded" to an SAP ERP and it took almost 2 years to recover.  They did
not know what parts they had, what were on order or when they would arrive.
They had DM numbers but no unit identification.  A real mess which would
have got the whole board jailed under the current SEC certification
requirements.  But since no one was going to be able to fix it other than
the existing management as no one else knew where to start - it was sort of
ignored.  Although the WSJ did a small piece on it.  A lot of us were
hunting for parts they had on the shelf.
