[s-cars] Speaking of Cheap Tools - how bad?

I use the channels as a jacking point, not where I place the jack stand
(though I have done it on occasion). The channels provide a fairly large
foot print so the load is spread out much better than if you try to pick up
at the factory jacking points. Though make sure that the saddle of the jack
straddles the channel evenly. I've seen one side of the channel flattened
on some cars because of carelessness. Trying to use a floor jack to the
factory jacking points can result in crushing of surrounding sheet metal due
to point contact from the large jack saddle. I've also used the subframe as
a jacking point. It's just that I prefer to put the jack stand there which
is why I jack from another area.
