The UrS4 puts out a lot more than 227 HP stock. Unless the drive efficiency
is about 5%. I would estimate it to be about 245 - 250 (15% drivetrain
efficiency). It is clear that the Germans tend to underrate the Horsepower
... the Japanese (except cars like the Skyline etc.) and the US tend to give
you exaggerated HP figures (at least compared to the German models).

yes, i mentioned it on the list a few times. mine started leaking
after i switched to synthetic, and i replaced it. the switch was
less than $10 from the dealer, and it was easy to change. it's on
the driver's side of the engine, toward the front.

ok, but the V-6 SHO definitely wasn't an example of overrating.

BTW, the engine was capable of revving higher than its factory rating,
which was selected because the accessories didn't like being run
over 7k rpm.

Well Bill, I think I see a potential problem here in an Audi application!
How can we be sure the short plug will properly meet up with the high

Tom,

Check your heater valve under the rain drain. I just replaced mine, it leaks
when your heat is on.

Have you looked at the coolant manifold under the intake manifold. This is
an area that leaks and is difficult to spot . Get a small mirror and take a

Hi Scott,

On my 94 S4 it was the ribbed hose from the boost pipe into the inter cooler
underneath the engine, driver's side (the Michelin Man hose, I believe). It
gets a lot of wear and tear down near the road and will often split in the
ribbed area... split wasn't obvious but the hose looked old and worn with
some
oil that had dripped on it (or out of it!). Same symptoms as you
described...
replaced it with my Samco hose from the group purchase... problem solved!

When I pulled the codes I got 2413 "Mixture adjustment adaptation limit
exceeded".

Hope this helps... good luck!

[ Converted text/html to text/plain ]
Just ordered (not in stock, not in a hurry) a set of the Euro Headlight
Lenses
from PG Performance 888.806.7978 www.pgperformance.com for $157Cdn (includes
UPS ground shipping to Seattle about $104USD). PUMA wanted $75US ea. plus $9
shipping, but they're in stock.

Just ordered, only 2 sets left, the Euro Tail light set (Red but blinks
amber
when turning) from PUMA for $119US + shipping.

Who on the list was selling the conversion for the low beams only?

Just got back from the "sold out 2 years in a row" Quattrofest run by Audis
NW
a chapter of ACCNA at Portland Int'l Raceway. A blast as usual! Only sour
note was a student (special order A4 3.0 sunroof delete & cloth seats thinks
it's the only one in the U.S.) who wouldn't listen & griped about having to
pay $15 helmet rental because he brought a motorcycle helmet from the 70's,
so
I gave him to another instructor, and so on.... (likes under-inflated tires
because that's how he normally drives on the street, holds steering wheel at
9
& 12 to get ready to turn through the Festival of Curves chicane, & likes
his
Eagle Talon). Did I mention first track day??? It was pouring down Quattro
weather, we call it "Liquid Sunshine"! Talk about slick, with my bald tires
I
spun at turn 1 trying to get used to the 6-spd gearing, but I learned the
"wet
line" from one of the Cascade Sports Car Instructors and then got it loose
again, but recovered this time (still got black flagged & had to come in).
Last year at PIR, my 3rd gear went out. Larry Vollum had his silver RS4
there, but didn't take it out (owns 959, Sport Quattro, Mits Evo Tommy
Makkinen ed., Ford Cosworth RS2000,etc...). PIR is the only city owned
racetrack in the country (and the cheapest to rent) & it hosts a CART race
every summer & in the past ALMS.

Intended Acceleration (Ned Ritchie), Scott Mockry (SJM Technik) with his
gold
fast 5000, & Achtuning (RS4 prepped S4) were there & donated or sponsored
items. The Parts Connection (Rod) & Sunset Audi paid for lunch. University
Audi also sponsored. Ronal Wheels donated a $500 Gift Certificate for
auction
( I lost, sold for $380).

I instructed a guy from Vancouver, BC who had a Mini Cooper S & with a few
gear changes got his buddy in a Fast & the Furious Supra Turbo to move over
(fun car-the Mini that is). I later then got in the Supra & tried the same
maneuver, but got loose at turn 2, where I had a little problem also. The
car
sounded cool, but we were getting spanked by tuned neu-S4's (had two
riced/F&F-Supras
there & they actually eat rice... hey so do I!). Their buddy brought a F&F
'93 NSX in an enclosed trailer (I teched him) that spun & was slow so we had
to put him in a slower group, it didn't like the rain. The last time we had
a
NSX at our Audi event, it had a new supercharger (stock wheels & brakes)
spin
on the warm-up lap into a tire wall (I watched it happen, he lifted-cold
tires, cold brakes, cold brain). The "other" Chris Miller (Vegas) brought
his
E46 M3 (second engine), the blue one that was at the Laguna NoCal event.
Incidentally, I'm voting for Chris Miller (Bentley Publishing, E. coast one)
because he was at PIR last year & bought me a beer.

Dominic Dobson, Seattle native, former Champ Car driver was our guest
speaker
talking about his racing experiences, etc... He believes CART will be gone
in
a year-and-a-half & it will be all IRL. This is due to CART going public.
IRL & F1 work well because they are run by a dictator like George &
Ecclestone
& they promote their drivers and got the sponsors. NASCAR took all the
sponsors away from CART & they promote their drivers. He would like to get
into rally racing next, but is currently busy with his vintage race car
management company (sorry, forgot the name).

James-
No. The Platin plugs are a different line of plugs
altogether.

IMHO, the Platinum +4 plugs are junk- very thin platinum
electrode, no real improvement over stock, sometimes it's
a downgrade over stock.

Stick w/ the OEM plug or investigate the colder Bosch
plugs if you're running really high boost- there is at
least one or two significantly colder, I can ask about the
part numbers in a few days- a buddy uses them in his race
car.

I can't find them on the part finder.

BTW,
Some of the crazier A4 guys running APR StageIII/III+

results w/ the Denso Iridiums and (!) they went to the
Bosch FD5POR with greatly improved results.

I'm not sure if fellow lister Rich Sierra can chime in,
I thought he had some experience with them.

Dan,
While you're changing the hoses connected to the coolant manifold, you
should also replace the hose that feeds the hard line that runs to he
turbocharger. Mine let go about a week ago, right outside the dealer's
service bay door! Don't do what my stealership did, however, and replace it
with stock NAPA coolant hose. This is an Audi pn. hose, although I can't
provide the # to you at the moment. It's some kind of reinforced stuff that
can tolerate the heat cycling that it's subject to down there, even though
it's on the cool side of the engine. I've seen a coolant hose replacement
kit (through Blau I think) that I'm definitely going to do when I do my
timing belt.
