[s-cars] "Retiming" Sunroof?

My sunroof stopped working for a few weeks, and then on day it just opened
up all the way even though the rotating switch was in the "closed" position.
The roof would not respond after that, and to make matters worse, it appears
the previous owner stripped the hex socket on the motor which can be used to
close the roof in an emergency. I took the car to my local dealer, who
"retimed" the roof. They said this is typically a sign of the battery going
low, but I haven't had any starting problems or other signs of that, so I
ignored it (bad move). Another month went by, and now the roof opened up
again last night.
Does anyone know how to "retime" the roof motor? Can I just power cycle the
motor/controller? Thanks for any help!
