[s-cars] hot intake temps = higher boost???

I'm thinking it has something to do with airmass. The MAF measures mass
airflow, and higher temp air is less dense, hence has less mass at similar
pressure. At least that's what my tiny little brain is saying. So, to get
the same mass at higher temperature, the ol' turbo has to put out higher
pressure.

How close am I?

Subject: [s-cars] hot intake temps = higher boost???

On my stock 95 S6 when ambient temps are approx. 85
deg F and up, I will see boost pressures of 16-17 psi.
When ambient temps fall, so does max boost, down 1-2
psi. It is my understanding (from this list) that the
ECU allows higher boost at higher ambient temps. Is
this correct? I thought the cooler the air entering
the combustion chamber, the less chance of detonation.
Therefore higher boost levels could be run with
cooler intake temps. Thus the reason for happersizing
the IC.

What am I missing?
