I don't have an extra 16" wheel but I had the same problem with my 16" wheels last year.  I went to put my snow shoes on
the 16" wheels (I hadn't bought my 17" summer set yet), the garage found a crack in one wheel.  It was late on a
Saturday and I absolutely needed the car that night so I had them put an inner tube inside.  It worked great.  Come to
think of it, I ran it the rest of the winter and had planned on having the wheel repaired this summer, but I FORGOT
ABOUT IT until I read your post.  I was going to put my snows on tomorrow too.  Hum, to run another winter with the tube
or wait a few more weeks and get the wheel repaired.

I'll think I will get this fixed as the tube was supposed to be my temporary fix (but it did run fine all last winter).

"After having a slow leak in one tire, I finally took it in to a Discount
Tire, where I bought them.  Unexpected result - a crack in a rim.  So, if
any of you guys wants to unload an unneeded 16" stock rim, now is the
time ;-)
