Jan, there is (or used to be) an alternative to the Bentley.  Dymant (I
believe that was the name) handled or published a set of shop manuals in
separate specific sections for Audi/VW:

I.e, I have in front of me four (4) separate white paper covered 2 8.5"x 11"
manuals:

There were other pamphlets as well.  As best I can tell, these mimic or copy
verbatim the equivalent sections out of the 3 thick volumes in the Bentley
set for the cars.  IIRC, the separate pamphlets ran some thing like @ $12 to
15 or 16 $US per section.
