Hi Lee,

Welcome to the list, I purchased my 96//S6 from the S-Car classifieds. I a=
m in Regina and the car was in Montreal.... a long way away. I looked at 3=
0 digital photos, talked at length to the owner ( a former lister), had it =
inspected by a Montreal Audi dealer and had a friend drive it before i had =
it loaded up and shipped out sight unseen.( my only fault was not having on=
e of our Audiots ( my wife luvs that) s-drive to Montreal to inspect it..Ig=
or, Paul ?)... I was really happy with what I got. Mine had 150,000 km's ,=
so pretty high mileage, but I could tell it had been well taken care of. =
That seems to be the case with most of these cars, they have been owned by =
car nuts and have been adored. Looking into the type of owner may give you=
more history than the car itself. I have found my car to be very reliable=
, granted it is a high performance machine, so there are more doodads to go=
wrong, but it has proven to be a solid workhorse. most guys will tell you=
that they will go forever, but when they don't, it can be expensive, but t=
he trade off is that you are paying less for a premium car. This is my .02=
cents worth, i can tell you that the list and the guys on it will do every=
thing they can to help you out and have saved me hundred of dollars in the =
last 6 months, and having that kind of resource is very comforting. Chance=
s are, someone will know the car you are buying and can fill you in, just a=
sk the list !!

Take care, good luck

Randy

Subject: [s-cars] UrS4 info

Hi everyone,

I am currently looking for a car and am considering the early S4's.
Unfortunately, I know almost nothing about these cars at all. Well, I
know what they are & what they are capable of, but not what to look for
when considering a purchase.

I learned this the hard way 5 years ago when I bought my 88 M3. I
didn't know much about what to look for, & it cost me big, and I lucked
out--nothing big was wrong with the car, just tons of small stuff.
Anyway, that's past now & the car is very well behaved & a treasured
possesion.

That being said, I don't want to repeat this scenario. I am looking for
information on the S4's. For instance, is this car reliable enough to
be driven daily, in gridlock, with 100degree heat? Is this car easy for
DIYer's? I have seen the information on UrS4.com & s-cars.org about a
pre-purchase checklist, but would like more information, maybe even
someone in the Atlanta area who could help me, or a recommendation for a
reputable shop in this area. One of the things that, of course,
concerns me is the possible issue with the early transmission whine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Lee Robinson
