taka,
10g decceleration is a small impact. colliding with a steel or
concrete guardrail at a 25 degree angle at 60 mph can produce
peak deccelerations of 45g. this is generally considered to be the
limit of survivability for a well-restrained person, by the way.
at 45g, 200 lbs becomes 9000 lbs. but the problem isn't just whether
he can lift that weight - his bones and joints aren't going to take
that kind of force.
they crashed at 90 mph. they're lucky the car slid sideways (scrubbing
off speed) and rolled a few times (again absorbing energy) instead of
running right into a telephone pole or something solid. paul wouldn't
be needing to think about his oil cooler any more if they had.
