[s-cars] tranny noise

Morning-

Yeah Charlie, me thinks Tom only read Dave's thoughts with one eye opened or
something.

On a serious note, I'm left curious as to what my tranny noise is. It is
not a 'ticky' sound as Elijah's car is making and Charlie's site details,
it's more like bearing sound(?), grainy sounding.

I'd love to think Tom was right in his BTDT, but wonder WHY a dry CV would
ONLY rear its noise in 1st gear? I tried loading up 2nd, 3rd, etc. to
replicate my noise in 1st, to no avail. It's only 1st gear. I would really
think the CV thing would show up in any gear, if persuaded to do so, no?
Not that I'm doubting you Tom, you obviously solved it in your car, it just
doesn't make sense to me. Anyone have possible explanations? My friend
Brian drove it and thought it might be an over cooked 1st gear bearing (?).
Dunno. Am I not doing HARD 1st gear launches as result? Of course... not.
Let 'er rip!

At the end of the day, s'pose it don't really matter either way. I'm all
put a trigger pull away from a new Accel warranty (if it's too good to be
true, it is... or is it? Apparently not, Bruce and I have hashed out a ton
on this off list, possibly more to come on that one later?). Once I get it,
I'll likely wait until winter and have the issue addressed. And every
bushing in the car (covered). And every tie rod end (covered). And...
and... and...

Sorry, but I disagree on that one. I really don't think definitely is the
right word for diagnosing problems via email either now! :-)

My suggestion is just that. I can't tell him 100% that this is his problem,
but I speak from the experience of having a similar problem that was solved
by the methods previously described. So he can do as he wishes. Clean and
repack some joints OR spend that wad on a replacement. As they say here "it
don't matter"

Tom, Tom, Tom...
It's DEFINITELY a Serious problem with the transmission.
Elijah NEEDS a six-speed.
The prop shaft joints can be repacked during the install of the 6, that way
the noise will certainly be gone. (kinda like giving one guy in the firing
squad a blank, 'cause you really don't want to know...)
Dave 93S4 with no ticking sound coming from My transmission :-) Burig

Doubt it's the tranny.

Sounds to me like dry prop shaft joints. The joint located next to the cats
are usually suspect. If they have never been repacked you might want to
drop the shaft enough to pull the joint and clean out the old dry grease and
repack it.

 Hi all,
Ok, my project s-4 is finally fixed but I have a strange noise in first
gear. It sounds like something ticking as I accelerate but only does it in
first gear. Is first gear going? Can it be fixed or does this mean new
trans.? Thanks for any help,

Elijah
