[s-cars] Ignition switch pain

I have lived long enough with my failing ignition switch!!(*^(*^_)_(*_)(*++
The symptoms are if I turn the switch a little past "start" not all of
my electricals will function (no turn signals etc)
In extreme cases the starter will remain engaged.
I understand it is a 2 part assy.  Electrical and mechanical.

Do I need to replace the entire assy?
Any BTDT - How hard is it to remove?
