Further to the saga regarding cracked left front steering rack mounting
brackets.

I have completed my fix of my cracked bracket. I first had a supplemental
support bracket installed made from a Gold starter motor mounting bracket.
Then I took the time to make the following fix:
1. Remove left strut and then remove old bracket by drilling out spot
welds. The old bracket comes away nice and easy.
2. Have a new bracket fabricated out of 1/8" steel by a sheet metal shop.
Use the old flimsy bracket as a template. Drill four extra holes in the
bracket to rivet the bracket to the chassis. Mount the bracket and
reinstall strut.
3. Drive car to a body shop that specializes in chassis welding. Have them
weld the new bracket into place.
4. Voila! The new bracket is very strong and will never crack during the
life time of the car.

Photos are available if you wish to see them.
Cheers,
Ron
