Mike:
I had a blast trying!
Summit Point definitely isn't the best track for a 4000 lb Avant. I couldn't
believe it but I lost ground all day to chipped New S4's and tt's in the
straights and made up turf in the twisties. It made no sense!
I knew that Summit was tough on tires, so put on a set of 1/2 used SP8000's
for the event. (the Hoo$$$$iers just get too $$$ to abuse). Wagging the
avant's tail through turn 6,7, & 8 was a blast, with the poor Dunlops crying
for mercy. Hauling 4,048 lbs down from 135mph aint too kind on the 993tt
brakes either. I've been too lazy to switch back to the Sumitomo's, and
noticed both left side Dunlops are corded from the abuse.
The Avant isn't a race car but neither is a urs4 or 6 sedan. IME, the Avant
handles better than a urS sedan, with the extra 150 lbs being out back and
having the benefit of a rear swaybar. It is easier to get the avant into
oversteer with a little trail braking than it was with my sedan. That being
said, both of these cars are so benign when you screw up they don't bite and
it keeps it easy to drive home what your drove to the event.
BTW, the new mini cooper looks like a hell of a track car --

How do you toss a 4000 lb car around the track, thats
an oxymoron. Must feel like a Winston Cup car with 400
less horsepower. I have other cars for that.
Nonetheless, I still love my S6 avant awaiting the
dreaded Samco install tonight.
Let's talk F1. I was just at Indy. 1300lbs with 850
normally aspirated horsepower shifting at 18,000 rpm.
I could be off a few pounds but you get the drift.
