Steve & Rich,

I believe it originated from Treser. It was later modified with ribs
along the top when a few were made. MTM now owns the moulds and
attaches their aluminum M T M to the top in place of the 4 rings.

I imported two of them a few years ago.

I have one on my "yellow car"

The fitment is really for the 3B or RR engine as the hydraulic pump
actually fits under the manifold. The picture has some other pump.

Rich,
No Audi came from the factory with this manifold. A few aftermarket
companies make/made intakes like these (MTM, TS Tuning) and the prices
are/were in the $900-$1500 range. It could be an Audi Sport piece
(SMS?), but I've never seen another one exactly like it. This is the hot
setup if you use a front mounted IC in an ur q, S2 or RS2 as it removes
about 3' of lag inducing plumbing from the stock configuration.
Although the manifold is a bolt-on, the IC and corresponding plumbing is
not. This manifold is not compatible with the AAN S4/S6 cars, but they
alreadly have a good manifold design anyway. HTH!

FWI, from the looks of it, that engine is mounted in an '86 or so Euro
ur q (ATF hyd. system, ABS).

Here is a pic of the turned around intake manifold. Anybody know what
model
it comes from? http://www.geocities.com/rictan302/IM.jpg
