[s-cars] Rear Brakes

Sorry guys- stupid question relating to the rear brakes-

Can someone please explain to me how one retracts the
brake pistons with the pads still in place or is there
some way to remove the pads before retracting the pistons?

I can't visualize this procedure and I need to know how this
works conceptually so I can understand how it works.
