Ok, I've been lurking on this thread for a while now. The Porsche shop
manual for 944, DOES (yes I 've seen it for myself) specify a bolt lubricant
for use on the threads and the land of the aluminum alloy lug nuts. In fact
someone actually had to show me the page to confirm it. I do not remember
the exact lube used (it had some Porsche designation like Moly xxxx). So
Scott, if you have access to Porsche shop manuals, check it out. I do not
have a copy of this page to distribute.

Definitely, the alloy lugs hold the torque better than the steel nuts with
or without lube-- I notice a tremendous difference in the amount of torque
adjustment I have to do when I use steel lugs on the track. The alloy ones
still need occas adjustment , but not as much.

I just wanted to keep intelligent discourse going!
