actually, that's pretty interesting, because the sanctioning of first
cousin marriage was largely a construct of the catholic church.  you
could still do it if you got a special dispensation, which of course cost
money.  it was one of the things that martin luther attacked when he
nailed his 95 theses to the church door.  a cynical person might think
the church came up with it in order to generate money.

albert einstein married his first cousin, BTW.  so did charles darwin.
