Bob:

I was close to doing this on my white s6, but didn't.

The s4 window trim is one piece, and plastic, I think while the s6/a6 is 2
piece and chrome.
The issue is the way the quarter window is mounted.   In the earlier cars,
the quater window is held in by clips and 2 rivits; in the later cars, it is
glued in.  This signifiacntly changes the way the molding is retained.
IMO, you would need to change the quater windows to the old style to
complete the conversion.  Also please note that the a6/a6 chrome trim at the
top of the door ( base fo the window) would probably need to be replaced
with the earlier version.   Again, there are significant changes in the
mounting of the two, so I just gave up, even though I have all parts needed
for the conversion.

alum (st/st?) trim on the later S6? If so, has anyone done this?
