Sooo ...after spending the better part of the day iPod install wrestling
uhmmm...it turns out I had way over complicated this, of course. Main thing
is you dont need an additional amp. And some how I wound up with way more
wire than needed,... but it works. This unit is now hard wired into the head
and toggles with the cd changer via a relay switch.
Sounds every bit as good as a CD IMdE (in my deaf estimation.)
Yah mon, and of course the iPod looks great too. I moved the passenger butt
warmer over to the left leaving the 3 open slugs to the right. Then attached
a cell phone holder to the bolts under the last mini half slug on the end.
iPod attaches to the holder via some stick on 3M mushroom fastener material.
(name escapes me at the moment.) So, it can sit firmly attached to the ph
holder, or pulled off and be hand held by driver/ passenger, or pulled off -
disconnect firewire and sound plug and removed from the car, or pulled off
and shoved in a secret compartment where the 3 sluggs used to be without
disconnecting at all. (This latter feature yet to be fabricated, as I am
looking for solutions that may make those 3 sluggs into one hinged door
somehow.) This cavity will be the perfect size for storage. Prolly not a
good idea to leave the iPod out in plain sight while parked. Right now the
firewire and sound output wires go to the radio through the rightmost slug
hole.
I'll do more of an detailed write up in the next day or two.
Total cost prolly came close $475 with a few misc. rat shack items. Quite a
value all things considered:)
