Bruce:
An insurance company trying to f*ck you? Why am I not surprised?
The closed throttle switch (F60) and the Throttle Position Potentiometer
(G69) are housed together. They have functions completely unrelated to the
BS that the insurance Company gave you. This is straight from the Motronic
Engine Management Manual for the Audi S4 and 4.2L Audi V8:
F60: "The Signal from the closed throttle position switch is used for idle
speed control, digital idle speed control, idle speed control adaptation and
deceleration fuel shut-off. Closed throttle is recognized by the throttle
position potentiometer G69 if the closed throttle switch signal fails. Idle
speed adaptation is also switched off."
G69: "The signal from the throttle position sensor is equal to the throttle
valve opening in degrees. The throttle valve opening above 35 degrees is
used for charge pressure control. What is new is that the signal from G69 is
now used as a substitute function for the mass air flow meter and diagnosis
of the closed throttle position switch. Self Diagnosis recognizes two faults
in the G69 circuit, break/short to positive and short to ground. The fault
"signal too large/too small" is used for charge pressure control and knock
control. In case of a fault, the throttle valve opening of 28 degrees is
used as a substitute function and charge pressure control is switched off."
"It's only purpose is to control the amount of gas & smoke that goes in the
air." I think not!
Good luck.
Bob

OK, so here is the answer from Accel warranty on why my TPS is not a covered
item. Does this sound accurate to everyone/anyone?
Thanks!

Hi Mr. Mendel. I heard back from my contact, and he said this is what he
found out:
The TPS is actually an emissions component. It's only purpose is to control
the amount of gas & smoke that goes in the air. Although it is located in
the fuel injection system, it is an emissions component, just like the
catalytic converter is located in the muffler, it's still an emissions
component. He said if you were to take your vehicle to an Audi dealer and
it was still under manufacturer's warranty, Audi would file the claim under
the emissions classification. This component is on the vehicle solely to be
compliant with emissions laws in the U.S.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but this is the final answer. I
am glad, however, that the other $802 was covered for your vehicle. If
there is anything else I can help you with or other questions I can answer,
please do not hesitate to contact me. That's what I'm here for. Thanks,
and have a great day!!

Importance: High
On my current open claim, all is fine except for one
item, the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) that I
mentioned in my previous email.
My position, and my mechanic John's as well (he's a Bosch certified master
mechanic), is that the TPS is a fuel injection sensor. Heritage's position
is that the TPS is in the emissions area, and is therefore not covered. In
fact, in speaking with them, John told me that Heritage feels that every
sensor in the fuel system is actually for emissions, so they really don't
cover anything. So their listing of covered items in the "fuel injection
sensor" area is misleading at best, since every time you call them they'll
most likely say "Oh, that's an emissions item". Needless to say, John and I
are not happy with that.
So I did some research, speaking with Audi of America, and getting the
official Bentley/Audi factory service manual for my car. The TPS is
considered by Audi to be a fuel injection sensor, which is specifically
covered in the "covered items" section of my warranty.
In fact, I have the factory manual now, and the TPS is listed and described
in section J24, under the index heading of "Fuel Injection and Ignition,
2.22 Liter 5-Cylinder Turbo", which is my car's engine. If you'd like, I can
fax you the page.
Can you intercede, or let me know what the appeals process is?
Thanks!
Bruce Mendel
