[s-cars] Timing Belt replacement

Fred Munro's FAQ (I think on Jimmy's Site) is an absolutey amazing "How-to"
for the T-Belt job. Follow it, and no fear about doing the job right. The
2084 tool doesn't work ( without serious modification) on an AAN because
there is nothing for the bottom to wedge against (like there was in earlier
I-5'). The proper AAN actually bolt to the left front of the engine to
lock. You need this tool and the torque wrench extension.
BTW, my tools are available to loan to fellow listers, but if you are in the
UK, this might not be feasible/practical.

No BTDT (yet) , but again, I'd say refer to
http://www.urs4.com/technical/repair/timing_belt/timing_belt.html For you
new guys on the list, Jimmy Pribble's excellent site www.urs4.com , is a
required bookmark.

Subject: [s-cars] Timing Belt replacement
I need to start thinking about replacing the timing belt on my 1995 S6 (UK
spec). It's done 66k miles, and although the service booklet says it needs
to be replaced at 80k, I'd prefer to change it sooner.
I have the 2084 engine locking tool that I used on my old 100s and 80q. Does
this work on the AAN engine? Are there any additional tools required - I
vaguely remember coming across a web site which showed half a dozen tools
but said most were not really necessary.
Presumably the water pump and idler need to be replaced at the same time.
Any BTDTs appreciated.
Paul
