Mikey, couldn't agree more. I've run Hakk's for years, not only do they
grip like stink but they wear tremendously better than them confounded
Blizzcrap's I tried one season. Never again. I even went down to 185/65/15
on my 2.3-16, 'twas fun for ice racing up in NH (WILL be trying the S there
this year, by the way... tune in down the road for details). I also
enjoyed a season on NRW's, great grip-to-wear compromise. Oh, don't
forget... NokiA is now NokiaN... to avoid cell phone confusion I s'pose...

Butbutbut, with dem biggie brakes a lot of us run the 15"ers ain't an
option. And, while I haven't had the car long enough to attest yet, I'm
picturing 3,800 lbs. of T rated tire shredding maddness. I'll cook right
through them I'd imagine. So, looks like I'd be joining the ranks of them
16" snow tired-idiots you'll be passing, likely NRW's for some tire saving
protection. Hell, mit the Q system it's still going to rock, enough at
least.

Jumping on the sword of ignorance here, has anyone attempted to run OE Avus
/ Z rated rubber in the snow? Or, am I in for the rudest of awakenings?
Last winter saw no snow here for practice. I plan on at least trying that
this winter, initially, even though my Pilots are all nice and chunked up
from autocross (I prefer to call the chunks homemade ice-SIPS). If they
blow hard, I'll likely break down and put something gooey on the Avus', at
least they're only 7.5"... the ONE thing they're good for!

Having lived in the white mountains of NH for many
years I only buy one snow tire. Nokia Hakkapaletta. My
S6 avant, and many prior Audi quattros, runs 15" steel
wheels with 195/65 dedicated snow tires. Tall and
skinny is the golden rule for snow traction. Just look
at any WRC car and you'll see.
I dare anyone to hang with me in the passing lane in a
snowstorm. The people who attempt to run 16" snows are
always in my rear view mirror.
It may be overkill but , I never miss a day of skiing
because of a measley 12" snow storm. I got my wifes A6
avant stuck once in 22"' because of ground clearance
problems not snow tire traction. It lifted the car of
the ground.
Good Luck,
