[s-cars] Exceptionally lame question

I'm going to suggest that this is NOT the ABS unit, as to my best knowlege the ABS electric control unit (ECU) is directly attached to the ABS hydraulic control unit (HCU). However I don't have ready access to a UrS to confirm...

I think in times past, there have been production ABS systems with ECU remotely located from the HCU, but these mounted the ECU much closer than the rear seat. (Not having to mount the ECU in the engine compartment probably allowed them to use cheaper spec electronics since the heat range of the environment was smaller) ABS controls brake fluid flow via electronically controlled valves (there several different types of methods of doing this but most systems now seem to use a electromagnetic controlled plunger-type design). Due to the very rapid nature of ABS control, the length of wire between the ECU and the electronic actuator on the valve can have a significant effect on controlling the valves, so the ECU tends to be as close to the HCU as possible.

Instead, this may be the control unit for the locking rear diff? I know this is located in this area. However if you have a 95.5 avant with ABS-based EDL rather than the electronic locking diff, this obviously could not be the case. Aaron do you have a 95 or a 95.5 ?

My guess would be yes, that it's the electronic control module. Got a P/N?
If it's 4D0 907 379 J, then most assuredly so!
