My clutch on my 92 S4 w/ 138K miles was very stiff. After replacing the clutch with 12lb Alum flywheel and CenterForce Clutch the clutch like butter..very smooth. It is still stiffer then a normal clutch to be expected w/ a performance clutch. I just didn't want to risk it going out on me leaving me stranded somewhere. Here is the breakdown in cost:
12lb Alum.Flywheel $900
CenterForce Clutch $475
CL Rel Bearing $70
Guide $48
Installation $640
So about $200-300 more then OEM clutch parts. I figure if this is a car I am going to build out to 400 ponies...the clutch would be one of the first things to go..so have built from the bottom up. Next comes the Cam and Big Reds..then RS2 conversion.

A couple things to consider... First, this could be the signs of: Bad
clutch master, bad slave cylinder, clutch in need of a bleed. I'd do those
items first. IME, a "hard" clutch is usually the result of worn out pressure
plate or clutch springs. In which case, 120k isn't *that* abnormal. It
really depends on how and who has been driving it. In my shop, I've seen
clutches go 200k mi or 75k mi, and everywhere inbetween. Teach a couple
people how to drive "stick" can be enough to chop the mileage down
significantly.
Do a clutch system bleed first, then do clutch master and slave. If none of
this helps, at least you've just made the clutch R&R less costly.
