the castrol SRF is $75/liter.  it's also not compatible with
DOT3/4 glycol-based fluids.  it's also corrosive toward seals, if
you get it hot enough, which seems to be the whole point of the exercise.
i'd go with the motul 600 or the ATE.  i've used motul 600 for years.

i'd prefer to change the oil before going.  it's cheap, and engine
rebuilds are expensive.  i think it's ok to leave it there afterwards
unless you exceed 260 degrees F for a significant amount of time.

you can use white shoe polish to determine how much of the tread is
being used.  a pyrometer is even better if you can get access to one.
