Heck even I didn't want to have to pay for my insurance anymore!!

After a few speeding tickets in the past 3 years, and 5 not-at-fault claims of >$500 in less than 2 years, the state of Michigan allowed my insurance company to really screw me.. I was paying just about $400 a month for the three cars.. ouch. Of course, a S2000 and a S4 arent exactly cheap to insure in the first place for a unmarried male. Of course its not that much better over here, insurance rates are a bit on the rediculous side.. But I'll only insure one car here, that will help. And with 2 years of no claims and no tickets in the US, my rates will be more reasonable when I get home!

12/2000 ~$10k, carport knocked over onto 91 200q20v, total loss
5/2001 ~5-6k damage done to my S4 when a friend was borrowing it
9/2001 $650 S2000 windshield
11/2001 $1k+, 260z breakin, glass breakage, and radio theft
4/2002 $650 S2000 windshield.

State of michigan allows them to jack my rates for EACH of those events, even though none were directly my fault... Gotta love "no-fault" insurance laws!!

lessons learned
1) dont let friends drive your cars
2) dont live in michigan (no fault insurance)
3) having your insurance company handle a claim that could possible be handled by the offending party, even though the offending party is not legally required to directly handle the claim, can bite you in the ass (have to balance this with the "my insurance company will treat me better than the offender's will..." argument)
4) don't live in michigan (so much damn rock salt on the road it causes windshield cracks)
5) always have a 25+ year old car to declare as your primary driver
6) don't live in michigan (completely LEGAL 250,000 lb open-top gravel haulers are detrimental to your windshield and paint job)
7) make sure there is always one car taller than your's parked in the parking structure...

Hi Fredric,

Regarding Keith Maddock; I might not want to pay for his insurance but he is
a great driver and you'll enjoy his company a lot. Say hello to him and have
a blast at Le Mans...Have you seen his one lap of America S4? If not take a
look on the S-car site.

Regards,

Shawn
