Mike:

That makes 3 of these failures -- you, me and Bill. All in Avants. A
coincidence?

Well, my S6 avant left me stranded for the first time
yesterday. I pushed the clutch pedal in and there she
sat, 60 miles from home. After removing the lower dash
I discovered that the threaded rod and clevis which
connects the pedal to the clutch master cylinder
snapped.
I removed the cylinder from the car with the broken
peices. I noticed that there is a clevis, a nut,
another nut, a rubber bushing type device, then the
cylinder. For the interim fix, I had the two nuts
welded together thus putting it back together and
replaced it in the car. Pressure bled the clutch and
off I went.
My question is. Do I need to replace the clutch
cylinder to get the whole rod with the rubber bushing
thingy? The clevis is fine. Just the connection
between the clevis and bushing is broken. If I choose
to be frugal...who thinks the setup I have created
will be fine?
Thanks
Mike P.
