That's it an American to the defense of an all British car. I have a
120hp autocross prepped Mini Cooper that is all British and just
wonderful. Well except for that Lucas electric stuff, had to pull that
out, something like a mile of wire was replaced with 10 feet of U.S.
made smokeless wire. Oh ya and the ignition, again replaced with a
smokeless U.S. made electromotive. Those smith gauges where never
really worth anything, again smokeless Autometer's. Don't get me
started on that steel radiator, again U.S. made replaced that piece. Oh
and that gas tank, drip tank more like it, again U.S. made Fuel Safe.
What the hell where they thinking with that hydrolastic suspension, what
alcohol induced coma brought that to life, Hypercoil 3000# springs to
replace that. Brakes, I don't think they have any idea what a brake is,
bmw rotors and wildwood calipers with a tilton master make it o.k. Don't
get me started on how week the rocker arms are, an American made set of
roller rockers fixed that. SU carbs, you call that a carb, a nice
Italian Weber fixed that. What was my point, oh ya, Americans sure can
fix all of those problems with a British car, the challenge is keeping
it British, hmm we have some British made omega pistons.

O.K.

Being a disenfranchised Brit, I have held my peace just about as long as
I
can. It seems to me that every culture has in it's history a car that
embodies all they hold dear. the British just happen to be fortunate
enough
to have more such automobiles than anyone else. Well except perhaps the
French.

I can still remember ending up in the middle of an Essex country lane
when
my College sweetheart took a corner with about as much urgency as one
can
muster in a 2CV, and the blanket we used instead of a heater slid right
out
from under me when the door flew open.

Strangely enough, I was almost tempted to buy one of the restored
versions
that are now available in Canada. Then their was my first real hot car,
a
Renault Dauphine Gordini! Strangely enough, an electric version of the
Dauphine is now available in Canada as well check them out at
http://www.feelgoodcars.com/dauphine_home.html !

Are these just strange coincidences? The Mini, and the Bug, two other
cars
I owned in my youth have also been reincarnated. Perhaps this isn't
about
old British cars at all.

Everything old is new again. Except perhaps me. Now what was my point?
I
don't remember, but perhaps another Balvenie will help. Did the Scots
ever
make a car?

Hic! Excuse me, I think I'll go back to sleep now! Rule Britannia!

Len

Obviously, Adrian is leaving the office early trying to go back home
with
his english sport car before it is dark !!!
I just realized why he is wearing super bright hawaian shirt, it is
actually
a safety equipment when he is walking on the side of the road !!!!

Regards,
Frederic

And so, with the inevitability of rust, the discussion turns from the
old
British sportscar to beer. And that's just as it should be.

Good night, folks.
