Morning-

<Disclaimer: Sorry if I'm bringing up a tired issue here (neiiiiggghhhhh?)>

Hoping you all can help me with a potential driveline noise I've recently
begun to hear in my '94 (12/94 build). I did a quick surf of the SJM and
S-Cars.org buyer's guide sites, but only see reference to worn pinion
"whine" (Jamu, The Archivehoar maybe?)...

Here's the circumstances:

1st gear "trolling" through my parking garage, I can hear an audible
drivetrain noise resonate around me. I also hear it when driving with
widows up, inside the car (which is why I'm just noticing it, just starting
to do that here in CT). Happens when I put load onto the drivetrain. Also
hear it 1st gear up my incline driveway (again, load related).

For LOBD, it sounds like a car with loose / worn timing chains / rails that
are 'slapping' the chain casing. It's a grainy metallic sound, almost
gravel-y, not too loud, and sounds like drivetrain "lash" sound (when
bogged) I've experience in other cars of my past. Somedays it's louder than
others, does it both hot and cold. Shifting to 2nd, it disappears. Though,
this may be due to lack of sufficient 'load' on system.

Thoughts?

Some have told me it might be the dreaded "wearing of the soft 1st gear"
issue of the 92-early-95 cars. I really hope this not to be the case, but
as I only hear it in 1st, I'm suspect. And worried.

If it IS this issue, what am I looking at here? As in, imminent failure /
replace now, or live with the sound (it's not at all bad, but I can hear it
which means something's going on) and replace way later? If I do conclude
it's 1st gear shot and it's short lived for this world, is getting one them
thar warranty thingies a good idea for this (Bruce M.? Peter A.? email me
direct please with details if you would be so kind)? If so, yes, I know, do
a CRB 6 spd.

Or, what else, if anything, might this be? Thanks for any thoughts, email
me directly if I happen to be beating a dead horse with, what else, a dead
horse.

'95 //S6 with so much spent on mods, who's got the crink for something as
"trivial" as, oh, a tranny?
'58 TR3A already blown / replaced tranny, oh, and, everything else there is
to break... until...

P.S. AN F'N FORTY-FIVE F'N GRAND car that cannot go a measly 96f'nK w/o
blowing an f'n gearbox? Don't even get me started... it won't be purty...
Audi-bloodshed everywhere. OK, end rant...
