(a) Yes
(b) If you want a 26mm bar, you need to talk to Hap about it & the
associated 26mm bar hardware
(c) If you want an adapter to mount a bar, either Hap's "big boy" or a stock
1992 Sedan / all Avant's (@ 17mm IIRC, I went out to try to confirm the
measurement, but can't find the bar. Hap do you still have the OEM bar that
was sent off as a pattern?) speak up. At Hap's request, I've got a shop
that will/is supposed to be in the process of making up a second run of
adapter plates & key locks only. The last time we had @ 20 or sot sets
made, I was left with @ 4 or 5 "leftovers" The left over original RSB
adapters have since been taken by late adopters. I'm not sure how far along
they were in cutting the plates. If they haven't done it yet, I may still
be able to ask them to do up a few more pairs.
Hap now has had @ 5 or 6 new folks that want to use the adapter with his
26mm bar. The shop is going to make up adapter kits for Hap's group. In
addition, I've asked them to make up a few, say 4 or 5 extra if there is
enough material in the plate. These will not have the extra pieces the
original sets did to fit the OEM 17mm bar, but Hap's kit comes with its own
bushing setup. Without the 17mm bar bushing pieces, my guess is the
adapters will cost @ $125 to $150 or so. Anyone who wants a set, should get
on Hap's list &/or let me know cause I'm not going to have a lot of extras
made up.
On install, I believe some one some where may have posted the adobe pdf file
I sent out with the original adapters with the install procedures etc.
Finally,
(d) If you are going to, or are even "just interested" doing this, you
should acquiant yourself with the "pros" &/or "cons" of the bigger is better
RSB debate etc. There are several old, lengthy threads on the subject.
Opinions vary. Certainly Audi never spec'd or supplied the cars with a 26mm
bar. There may be a rear suspension mount point durability issue with a
bigger bar using the RSB adapter plate. That said, I've run the 17mm bar,
and I've put on the 26mm bar. The 26mm bar IMO is a "night & day" kind of
change. Personally, I like it.... a lot! The OEM is more subtle, but also,
again in my limited opinion, improvement. As always with something like
this, YMMV....
