[s-cars] removal of oil drain plug

Hi Dan;

If the plug is overtightened when it is put back in after an oil change, by
the time you try to remove it again it can be almost impossible to get out.
Several listers have had this problem.
I'd suggest taking the car for a run to get the sump good and hot, then use
a freeze spray on the plug to shrink it. Sears makes a socket for removing
bolts with stripped heads - get a solid grip on the plug and break it loose.
You could also try to MIG weld a larger nut to the plug for a better grip,
but be careful you don't get it hot enough to melt the aluminium sump or set
the oil on fire in the engine. The heat cycle might break the plug loose.
I had one heck of a time getting the plug out for the first oil change on my
UrS4. I've torqued the plug to 25 ft.lb ever since and have never had a
problem - I can break it loose with a standard 3/8" drive ratchet.

Dear Listeners: The oil drain plug on my 95 S6 will not unscrew. After
several attempts lying on my back and partially defacing the plug, I took it
to a service center where two mechanics and a breaker bar could not break it
free. They suggested an Audi dealer; however, before I do that, are there
any suggestions from the List? I appreciate BTDT experiences, as well as
any information regarding a type of socket or wrench for partially stripped
bolt heads that was mentioned on the List awhile ago. It might have been a
Sears product. Thank you.
