[s-cars] Technician can't duplicate AC compressor condition

Excellent tip! - unfortunately I tried this during my lunch break and
everything seems fine and tight. Only a hint of a small noise, not a grind,
but reasonable considering you're causing the bearing to spin at idle rpms.
I'll keep you all posted (especially since there's dibs on the old A/C
compressor core).
Doug

Hi!
Several of the cars, mine included, have had problems with the viscous
fan axle bearing. (the one on the generator bracket)
Easiest checked by starting the cold engine and stopping the fan with
your fingers. (use gloves or a stick to stop it, or get someone else to
start the engine while holding the fan gently) If you feel a growling
shudder in the fan, and the fan 'play' isn't more than 10-15mm, it's
most likely the axle bearing. Requires a torch and a press (or a
hammer..) to change just the bearing. (Audi item, not a standard
bearing.)

Check and let us know!

Bjorn :o)
