Good news is that the motors appear to be turning so you don't have to
pull the center console to get them out, bad news is that the linkages
that are likely to unsnap or jam are difficult to get at but not
impossible. Remove the glove compartment and left lower panel. On the
right side of the center console (way underneath and up into the
dashboard), you'll see a blue linkage -- if you're lucky, the linkage
just came apart or is stuck. The left side is a red linkage, more
difficult to get at. While you're at it, lubricate the linkages and
mechanisms with silicone. There's another set of linkages in the tray
holding the motors, but you can't get at those without pulling the
center console.
In my case, one of the motors was bad (showed an error code with VAG), I
replaced both motors anyway and lubricated everything with silicone. I
took some detailed pictures while I was at it, if anyone is interested,
I'll be happy to e-mail. It helps to see what you're dealing with,
black and white line drawings don't always cut it.
Pulling the center console out is not fun. You learn a lot about Audi
hidden fasteners, how to unsnap plastic pieces without breaking them and
how to test your patience.
