[s-cars] MTM ECU Problem

Doug, if I recall correctly, there was a spate of ecu upgrades that came out
of Hoppen's shop a year & a half or so ago that exhibited problems.  As I
recall the chip swap / install was defective or failed for one or more
reasons either immediately at, or shortly after installing the ECU's back in
the car.  I don't recall if the cause of the problems were ever narrowed
down to some internal malfunction in one of the EPROM chips, or (more
likely) something related to the removal & reinstall of the chips on the ECU
board.  As I understand, some tuners re-solder chips directly to the mother
boards; some install sockets into which chips can be swapped back & forth.
If you are in the latter category, I guess it wouldn't hurt to make sure the
chips are well seated in the sockets etc.

One local shop that used (and may still use) Hoppen/MTM for ECU upgrades had
to borrow a spare ECU on more than one occasion while they sent the
problematic ECU back to be resoldered, or otherwise fixed.  As far as I
know, Hoppen always stood behind correcting the problem, at least on the MTM
chips & ECU's done by them.

Where or from who did you get your MTM chips?
Was the ECU sent off to have it done?  If so, who did the MTM chip swap? Do
you know if your mechanic had previous experience or problems with who ever
did the R&R on the ECU chips?

My 95.5 S6 Avant died on the freeway recently.  It had been exhibiting
intermittent loss of power problems for a few days.  Codes pulled on Monday
pointed to a bad cam position sensor.  The mechanic traced the problem back
to the ECU which was replaced about a month ago when I went to an MTM Stage
1 upgrade.

Have others had problems with the MTM ECU's?  I would be interested to hear
from you if you have.
