Fear not oh Gerardus Mercator one,
I was feeling just what you were thinking and your post stirs me to action. I
was out in lousy weather(slushy, thick, junky, stuff) last night driving from
Everboost to the Socialist Republic of Boulder and back. Kudos and gracious
thanks to the Don, Frank Amoroso, for installing my new to me Sport steering
wheel. He has done several of these mods and the process, once I had rounded
up all the required bits, went quickly and effortlessly.
After the Don was finished I jumped into the Green Wunder car and carefully
wheeled out of Boulder. Here I was in absolutely terrible driving conditions
with the best car there is to conquer said conditions. As I was driving
along, I was struck with the pure symphony of this machine. The feel of the
Sport wheel, the snug feel of the sport seats, the short shifter with another
Don addition the lead filled shift shaft on the CRB, and of course, the
throttle responce of the engine. Wow, add to this the purely awesome
Audiaudio sound system and now you're talking maximum sensory overload. It
was all I could do to place my concentration on the road ahead.
These are great cars and when they are modified and improved they approach an
awesome threshold. The choices for someone on the modification trail have
never been greater. When I started the choices were very few. The prices
are also at new lows. 10 years ago Ned Ritchie had a package deal for the RS2
manifold and turbo with SW for something like $5500 plus installation.
Another great facet is that you can pick and choose your mods as your wallet
allows. I've been working on this car ever since I took delivery 10 years
ago. The recent Car and Driver articles are finally giving the marque its
due. We're just ahead of the power curve here.
I have often been asked why I have invested so much time and money modifying
a 10 year old car with over 135,000 miles? I could have easily taken a
simpler upgrade track and also bought and modified a track car for the same
money. Or, I could have purchased and modified a new car. I like this car and
I like it even more with all the mods. Keep the faith you band of merry men
and keep modifying.
Hap, off the soapbox in Everboost, Maguire
