What I like about this list is the willingness to discuss any topic,
such as NPG+ coolant nobody intends to use to replacing the speedo
cable.  Perhaps this is a non-problem since you can't replace something
if you can't find one.  Richard, I think you don't need to worry about
which wire is the speedo signal.  If you go in to use stabilant, you
want to treat every connector you find as preventive maint.
I do use Pentosin antifreeze  since I could buy it at a reasonable
price, it meets all Audi specs. and I would never submit to the
price-gouging of Autobahn products.  I have still replaced the inferior
Audi radiators after faithfully using the phosphate, silicate, and
amine free stuff. ( I'm curious about the high boiling point flammable
stuff.)
I haven't checked it out yet, but I think you can trace the speedo wire
up from the bellhousing signal generator, checking for same poor
connections.
