I did one of the front seals on a transmission that was out of the car and it was really easy. Doing it on the car would be a bit tougher but I think it's probably doable. If you're doing one of the fronts you'll need a 10mm (I think) triple square or spline drive bit to remove the halfshaft from the flange. Then you take the flange out with an allen bolt in the center. The seal just presses in to where it stops. Fairly simple but you will be under the car for a while. You may also lose some oil from the trans.
