Hi Mark;

You can get kits to convert the DOT lights to HID and they work fairly well.
The advantage to the Euros is the ability to increase the high beam wattage.
The DOT light high beams scatter more to the side and don't project as far
up the road due to extra fluting in the lens compared to the Euros.
The Euro low beam cut-offs are adjustable to be flat across or have a 15
degree upward angle on the right to illuminate road signs. The DOT low beam
cut-offs are flat with a square notch in the middle for some unknown (to me,
anyway) reason. The reflectors are the same in both lights but the bulb
mountings are, of course, different.
The HID capsules do run cooler than a halogen bulb with a similar light
output. The HIDs still put out enough heat to melt snow and freezing rain
off the lens if that is a concern in your neck of the woods.

Hello all,

Have a question or two for all you lighting experts.  I have an 95.5 S6 with
the standard USA lights.  It appears that the upgrade path I see from the
postings is to go to euro lights (H1s) and then to add HIDs.  How about just
adding HIDs to USA lights.  The cutoff on my driver's side headlight appears
to be rather dramatic.  Are euro light reflectors that much better?  Can't I
just adjust mine to be reasonably close to those? Heat shouldn't be a
factor;
don't HIDs run cooler than H1s?  I recall when I put H1s on my old 911 they
ran so hot I was able to cook the bugs before they hit the glass.  Help?
