[s-cars] LAC- Mitsubishi Evo

I had similar experiences a couple of years ago when the WRX came out.
I was seriously considering buying one to be my daily driver. Most
dealers would not allow test drives without a deposit. The one dealer
that did give test drives let me drive a wagon with an automatic. (DO
NOT even consider the automatic, it's slower off the line than anything
that I have ever driven.) Needless to say, I was not going to buy
without trying the car. As it turns out, my wife shot down the Subie as
being too small for our family. I bought a slightly used A6 2.7T 6spd
that met spousal approval. :)

Fast forward to last summer. I stopped by a Subara dealer in Longmont,
CO that had a few WRX sedans with 5 spds. They were more than happy for
me to take a ride. In fact, the salesman took a nice silver sedan with
only 9 miles on the odo to a dirty road for me to try out. He drove it
like a rally car sliding turns and taking it to redline at every shift
all the while explaining how he was a driving instructor and rally co
driver. I really enjoyed the 70-0 panic stop on the dirt with no hands
ABS stability demonstration he said. I felt like I was back in high
school riding with my friend who liked to get air in his '72 Chevy.
Fun. I had a hard time getting myself to do the same, but I really did
it a shot. I don't if this guy still has a job, but it sure was a great
demo of the car. BTW, if you buy a Subaru there, you might want to make
sure that it is fresh off the truck, or at least avoid the ones with
splattered bugs on the side windows...
