Dave -
The space I tend to worry about isn't between the top of the fender arch &
the center of the wheel, but rather the center of the wheel and the GROUND!
I'm tired of worrying about hitting or scraping even relatively small
parking lot speed control bumps etc.
Last, I don't know how sensitive the Audi chassis may be to this, but as I
recall from some old FoMoCo products, suspension adjustments that produced
an unusually different front / rear height change, also had the effect of
changing other handling characteristics ~i.e. in the case I'm thinking of,
very "darty" steering, .... maybe more pronounced under braking?
Finally if I recall correctly, your results with the "new" Eibach kit
appears to be exactly the oposite of the early/first round Eibach adopters.
In the messed up kits, the springs appeared to droped the rear more than the
front, and the correction was a set of 1cm spacer Eibach offered to put in
the rear to bring it up @ 1/2" to be more in line the front.

~.... The front is lowered to the point where
~there is about 1 1/4 inch of air space between the fender arch and the top
of the tire (235/45/17). In the rear, there is about 3 1/2 inches of space.
