1- You can go the conventional way and use the RS2 MAF route as sooo many
have done. But, what are the gains? You do enhance the flow for the lowend
and hp/torque overall but these gains are marginal(1-2hp at the wheels(ATW)
not corrected for snot(NCFS)). You do however retain some protection for
that
mysterious hot wire element with the egg crate design of this MAF"s screens.
2- Then we have the infamous "NEGATIVE BOOST" enhanced methodology of
eliminating the screens altogether from the stock MAF(5hp ATW NCFS). The
downside here being the total elimination of any protection(are you
listening
here Pizzo?) during contact, OOps I mean boosted pulls. None other than the
illustrious Don does in fact run without said protection.

After reading up on some of this negative boost stuff (Aussie article from a
few years back, seems to have some credence), and kicking this around with
Hap a bit, I went ahead and removed my FILTER side MAF screen this past
weekend. Thought was said to reduce boost threshold up to a claimed 500 rpm
reduction, and get a few HP out of it. Established baseline of boost
thresholds in 3rd & 5th gears, and removed the sumbitch.
Result? Boost threshold did not seem to move any lower. Throttle response
'feels' crisper, and car, dare I say a C-hair snappier (quicker)? Could be
placebo though. Couldahshouldadidn't click off a few AC-22 runs before /
after (why did I buy this thing? I'm too lazystupiddumbwhatever to use
it... OK... just haven't had time... wife bought it for me anyway 8-)), oh
well.
Hap / Frank... should I continue on and remove the MAF entry screen and try
to not suck any small unsuspectingfurrykittens (SUFK) up through the intake
snorkel? I just might...
FWIW... the screen literally pops right out via a circlip retainer,
undamaged, for easy reinstallation. Entire effort took 3 minutes, 2 of
which spent rubbing some 'ole polish on the nifty aluminum bits on the MAF
casing.
