WHHooo hoo! OK, whoo hoo, I *think*...

Well, it's only been four months now that I've been living with my hard
hot-start issue. Recap: began doing this one day early Dec.,a month after
I replaced fuel filter, car would crank and crank repeatedly when left
sitting from 1-12 hours, then 'sputter to life' briefly. Started / ran fine
otherwise. Threw code "1554 (IIRC), fuel mixture adaptation limit not
reached". Replaced fuel filter assuming bad check valve. No improvement.

Well, four months, forty dollars, and four minutes of effort later (must be
something with the 4s?), I slapped in my new Fuel Pressure Regulator last
night. Noticed ZERO fuel come out of fuel filter inlet line I'd cracked to
relieve pressure on FPR, interesting, knew it was some sort of pressure
bleed-off issue. Install FPR, she started right up! Even though it'd been
sitting 4 hours, and there was no apparent pressure in the system!

Just ran outside, been sitting 2 hours, fired right up. If I weren't too
lazy / ignorant / cheap / busy I'd have done this long ago, oh well.

Anyway, just wanted to provide the list an 'apparent' end to THIS issue
(there will certainly be more), and thank everyone for all their earlier
input.

Oh, of note, the FPR I removed differed in both appearance and #s than the
new Bosch unit I got from Rod @ Parts Connection. Both say 4.0 bar, but
differ in the # that follows that script. Old says 465, new says 381. Part
#s differ (not sure which is Audi vs. Bosch), 078 345 34"A" old, "C" new,
and 280 160 516 old, 575 new. And they were visibly different with respect
to the lower diaphragm and the color / location of the seals. Bueller?

Hoping I'm not dreaming. Car felt f'n FANTASTIC this morning, placebo?
Anyone have any thoughts as to what I may have been doing running a bad FPR
for 4 months (like running lean, etc.?).

Oh, will be removing 2nd MAF screen @ lunch and see what further changes can
be felt...
